MOVIES: Ben Kingsley Will Play Iron Man 3 Villain

Posted on April 9, 2012

The first Marvel film to release after the Avengers will be Iron Man 3, which will be directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Death Note). Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle will be reprising their roles from the last film (Scarlett Johansson will also be returning as Black Widow). But one question remains, who will be the villain?

Variety has the exclusive scoop, reporting that Ben Kingsley (Hugo, Gandhi) will be the film's antagonist. So who will be play? Well, according to insiders, Kingsley will NOT be playing The Mandarin, one of the Iron Man's archenemies in the comics.

Rather, Kingsley's character will have something to do with the spread of an unknown virus through the use of nanobots. It would make sense, seeing how the Iron Man 3 will be loosely based on Warren Ellis' story "Extremis."

The movie will begin filming next month, and is set for a May 3rd, 2013 release. Expect to hear more details on the movie soon.

  1. Ugh! Why will they never do what we want?! You could totally make the Extremis storyline with the Mandarin as the villain. If other movie series are any indication this could be the last Iron Man movie we see so why can’t we have the best IM villain? I don’t get it….
