Just a couple of days go, we reported that Ben Kingsley would be playing the unnamed Villain to Iron Man 3. Many have guessed that the villain would be Iron Man nemesis The Mandarin, and Jon Favreau, who directed the first two movies, even stated that he was planning to have him in future installments. Unfortunately, sources have dismissed that claim. But now it looks like that might not be the case, as a new casting call could in fact be hinting at The Mandarin afterall.
A new casting call for extras lists "ALL TYPES, ALL AGES & ALL ETHNIC DESCENTS ARE NEEDED." But the most interesting thing is the next part of the casting call, asking for "a special need for those of Chinese as well as Middle Eastern descents."
For those who remember the first movie, Tony Stark dealt with Middle Eastern terrorist who kidnapped him, forcing him to create weapons for their army. The group called themselves the Ten Rings, which payed tribute to The Mandarin's ten rings, which he wore and granted him powers. And obviously, the Chinese decent part of the casting call would refer to The Mandarin's ethnicity. Nothing is confirmed or set in stone yet for the third Iron Man, as it's still in pre-production, but this could potentially mean we could be seeing The Mandarin in the next movie, in some form or another (remember, Kingsley is reported to NOT be playing The Mandarin).
The casting call is scheduled for this weekend in North Carolina, where Iron Man 3 is reported to begin shooting. Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013.
