MOVIES: Chronicle Director Josh Trank Will Develop ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot

Posted on April 27, 2012

Josh Trank did a really amazing job in directing Chronicle, as it became one of my favorite films of the year so far. And while it technically isn't a superhero movie, Chronicle does hold themes and elements of one. So what's next for Trank? Well, it looks like he'll be working on an actual superhero film this time, with Marvel's first family, The Fantastic Four.

Before Chronicle was released into theaters, rumors have been going around that Fox was already interested in Trank to develop a Fantastic Four reboot. Of course, as any rumor goes, that news was taken with a grain of salt. But according Collider, who bumped into Fox CEO Tom Rothman, says he is indeed going to be working on the movie. But will Trank be directing? This is what Rothman said:

Josh Trank who did Chronicle, I think this has been reported, is gonna come on and work on a take, or a vision, that he has for it, so we’re very excited about that... I think there’s a possibility of [him directing]. I mean he’s gonna develop it now, and then it depends on the script.

I've been a fan of Trank ever since I screened Chronicle (your can read my review HERE), so I'm excited with this news. The Fox CEO also mentioned that a Chronicle 2 is currently being developed, as well as the Daredevil reboot we reported a year ago.

  1. I’m kind of really sick and tired of ‘Reboots’. That typically means that there will be yet another ‘Origin Story’ to tell in the course of yet another ‘Trilogy’. If you want to have an origin, for characters that have been around 50 years or more, how’s this for an idea: Just do a quick montage of how you think they got their powers in the first 5-7 minutes as a flashback, then start with a new tale. Seriously though, what’s wrong with just saying here they are, they can do awesome things, who cares why, and letting them kick ass and take names?
