Looks like the creators of such films as Scary Movie and Meet The Spartans have found their next target for their next slapstick parody film. Writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have set their sights on the recent blockbuster film, The Hunger Games, and other hit films from this movie season.
According to Variety, the duo has received the international rights from K5 to produce since the Cannes Film Festival. The Hunger Games seems to be an easy target for the duo since the film was a hit at the beginning of the spring movie season and grossed over $152 million domestically during its opening.
Although The Starving Games (which will be the title of the film) will be the focus for this movie's jokes, the movie has been planned to also include spoofs of the hottest recent movies such as the record-breaking Marvel film, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2. Friedberg and Seltzer are known to do these over-the-top parody films and started with Scary Movie in 2000, and have since co-written and co-directed their other parody films such as Date Movie, Meet The Spartans, and Vampires Suck.
It really has to make you wonder though, who funds these guys for production and is there really a market for these films? Seems pretty ridiculous to see yet another parody film, but whatever they're doing, its working for them.
