Square Enix has announced another mobile-based game for the Final Fantasy franchise, specifically for iOS and Android devices. The game is titled Final Fantasy Dimensions, and will be displayed during this summer's E3 gaming expo next week. If you enjoy classic J-RPG style games, this may be the game to look out for this summer.
Square Enix's official website has announced an expected summer release for iOS devices and will feature art direction that hearkens to the old 2D era of Japanese RPGs, along with a classic Final Fantasy job system and storyline. The official logo for this game also is the same logo for another previously released game for mobile devices in Japan titled Final Fantasy Legends: Hikari to Yami no Senshi for iMode and EZweb phones in 2010. Here is the official description of Final Fantasy Dimensions:
"Drawing upon the roots of the series with such features as beautiful 2D pixel art, job-driven character growth, additional scenarios in which to inherit the jobs of your adventuring companions, and a classic story of light, darkness, and crystals, FINAL FANTASY DIMENSIONS delivers the best of FINAL FANTASY, retro and fresh alike, directly to your smartphone."
So what's to anticipate for this game? Well, if you enjoyed classics in the series such as Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in the US) or Final Fantasy Tactics, this mobile game just may be something to please the old school fanatics. No gameplay footage has been released yet but it would be neat to see Final Fantasy in 2D glory again and hopefully with a turn-based battle system. More details on this game will be revealed at E3 along with other games in Square Enix's line-up such as Kingdom Hearts 3D : Dream Drop Distance and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.
