Final Fantasy XIII is the second series in the Final Fantasy franchise to get a direct numbered sequel, but it also might be the first series to get a third direct installment. Square Enix has confirmed that all the Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC is done, but new word says Lightning's adventure isn't over yet. Perhaps a Final Fantasy XIII-3?
So while we won't be getting anymore content for XIII-2, Motomu Toriyama, director of both the FFXIII games, has hinted that we'll be getting more from the word of Gran Pulse and Cocoon. According to Andriasang, Toriyama was interviewed by Famitsu during the Taipei Game Developers Conference to where we was asked about the upcoming Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event. Toriyama said this:
"The [FFXIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off."
While that doesn't necessarily confirm another Final Fantasy XIII sequel, it does tell us we're going to be getting a lot more Lightning, to which we're assuming will be in the form of another game. Of course, there's also the possibility of a Final Fantasy XIII movie. I mean, Square Enix developed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children for the game's 10 year anniversary... so maybe? Hopefully we'll be able to get some official statements from Square Enix on the weekend of August 31 during the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event.
