TV: The CW Brings Back ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’

Posted on March 3, 2013

whose-line-is-it-anywayPerhaps some of you were wishing for this show to return, or maybe you wondered why they haven't brought it back after it abruptly ended. For those unfamiliar with Whose Line Is It Anyway?, it pits four comedians in a faux game show (with no real prize for winning other than laughs) as they perform impromptu sketches and other random acts for a live audience. The results were often unpredictable and wildly hilarious, making this one of the best comedy shows on network television.  After some rumors and speculation, it looks like Whose Line will be returning to television again.

Most of the murmurs about the return of Whose Line started on twitter, from Colin Mochrie (one of the original comics on the show). At first most people  saw Colin's previous twitter post about Whose Line as a joke, that is until he actually revealed on a later post that Whose Line Is It Anyway is in fact returning:

Better yet, most of the original comedians will also return which includes Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles, and of course Colin Mochrie. Drew Carey, who usually hosted the show, won't be coming back, but instead Aisha Tyler (some of you may know her as Lana from Archer) will be filling in as the new host. In classic tradition of the show, there will still be a fourth guest revolving for every other episode.

The previous run of the show was broadcasted on the ABC network ending in 1998, but CW will be picking up the series which will be out in the summer. So far CW has ordered up to 10 episodes for the show. I would say I'm excited, but as with all remakes and revived shows, I'd like to reserve judgment and stay wary if the show doesn't go as well as planned. However it is quite awesome to see most of the original cast back, so I think that makes me a bit less worried. If you've never seen the show, here's one of  my favorite segments from the show called 'Props'.
