MOVIES: Carrie Fisher Confirms Involvement With ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ [UPDATED]
UPDATE: According to CNN, a rep of Carrie Fisher said "she was joking," and that "nothing has been announced." This is a response to when Carrie said "yes" to asked whether she would be reprising her role as Princess Leia. Of course, we know this already, as Mark Hamill recently said that they "haven't signed any contracts," and they're still talking to the writers.
The original article follows...
With Harrison Ford said to return and Mark Hamill confirming that they're currently in talks to reprise their iconic roles, this news may just give those wanting a reunion between Luke, Leia and Han a new hope (see what I did there?).
The people at Palm Beach Illustrated were lucky enough to get an interview with the Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher. The media outlet asked her what she has been doing as of late, and of course, with Disney planning a new Star Wars trilogy, they had to ask her if she would be involved with the new saga.
Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?
Yes.
What do you think Princess Leia is like today?
Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.
Pretty straight forward, don't you think? And she may have said yes, but we cannot talk this as official confirmation until Disney or LucasFilms announce it. Plus, Luke Skywalker said it himself, that they haven't committed to anything yet, but they are currently discussing with the writers to how their characters would play into the new trilogy.
They're talking to us. George wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts – they would write us out. I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed - on their end, not mine. They're more busy than I am.
Hamill has also hinted that the story could be focusing on their characters' offspring (Jaina, Jacen and Anakin Solo, according to the novels).
What do you Star Wars fans think? Would you like to see them return?
