MOVIE REVIEW: Star Trek Into Darkness
Screenwriters: Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof
Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Peter Weller, Anton Yelchin
Release Date: May 16, 2013
Based on the 60s television show "Star Trek" created by Gene Roddenberry
While I'm not as well versed with the Star Trek universe as any full-fledge Trekkie, I would think my knowledge would be enough to get me by. I've seen a good amount of episodes from the original series, and I've seen just about all the films. When J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot/sequel released, I was pleasantly surprised to how non-Trek it was, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It was polished, action-heavy and surprisingly funny, and I loved it. All my Trekkie friends seemed to have liked it, and those I knew who weren't fans, became fans. Enter Star Trek Into Darkness, the follow-up to one of the most successful and highest rated movies of 2009. So how was it? For the most part, it was a lot of the same.
MOVIE REVIEW: The Great Gatsby
Screenwriters: Baz Luhrmann, Craig Pearce
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki
Release Date: May 10, 2013
Based on the 1925 novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby was hailed as one of 2013's most anticipated and most glorified summer blockbusters, but similarly to its characters, the movie was more style than substance. Although you can see that it was obviously beautiful, it really is just that; screen deep beauty.
MOVIE REVIEW: Iron Man 3
Screenwriters: Drew Pearce, Shane Black
Starring: Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Ty Simpkins
Release Date: May 3, 2013
Loosely based on the 6-issue Iron Man story arc "Extremis," written by Warren Ellis
Here it is guys, the first film to begin Marvel's Phase Two: Iron Man 3. Robert Downey Jr. suits up once more as the genius, billionaire philanthropist. He may look like the same overly charming, narcissistic superhero we remember from the last couple of movies, but after the events of New York (aka, the Avengers' awesome climax that destroyed most of the city), Tony Stark begins to have anxiety attacks. All the Norse gods and aliens just seemed too much for a "man in a can," but Stark shows us he's much more than that. Even when everything gets taken away from him (house, gadgets, his armors, you name it), he proves that he's more than just a dude in a high-tech suit of armor.

GEEK GAL of the MONTH: Mad Mel Madigan
It's May, we have another awesome geeky gal to feature! This time it's miss "Mad Mel" Madigan, who represents our pals at AggresiveComix.com! She's a huge Spidey fan, and she loves her Xbox. If you're on the east coast of the US, you may just bump into her at several conventions as well.
C4G: Hey there Mel! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Mel: Well hey there! I'm Mad Mel Madigan, or just Mel for short if that too much for you. I am soon to be 25 years old from Miami, FL. When I'm not out fighting (or causing) crime, I help get people addicted to caffeine. I myself am addicted to caffeine so I guess that backfired on me...I'm insanely obsessed with comics, video games, and movies. I'm one of those people that yells at the screen if they get something from the book wrong. I randomly start dancing or singing. And I get distracted by shiny things...

The latest comic from the Dead Space Universe comes to us in the form of Dead Space: Salvage. The story centers around Stefan Schneider and his ragtag group of space scavengers known as "magpies" who come across the deathly remains of the ill fated USG Ishimura (the setting of the furst Dead Space game). As they board the ship to scavenge its remains, they come to face to face with the Necromorph menace and must find a way off the ship before government shock troopers can eliminate all evidence of the "incident".

Dead Space: Liberation serves as a direct prequel to Dead Space 3. The story centers around Sergeant John Carver (Isaac Clarke's partner in Dead Space 3) and his role against the Church of Unitology after the destruction of his home on the planet Uxor.

Once upon a time, video game stories were so simple that the entire plot could be summed up on the first two pages of the video game manual. Nowadays video game stories are so complex that not even the game itself can contain its narrative. Which is why its so cool to see games like Dead Space get their own graphic novels so that talented artists and writers can flesh out the worlds and characters just a bit further.
MOVIE REVIEW: Oblivion

Four years from now, alien invaders will attack earth. While we’ll win the war, the losses sustained will be catastrophic. As a result of the chaos, the Earth as we know it will become unable to sustain life. As such, the survivors of humanity will take to the stars in an effort to forge a new future. While I’m not exactly sure these events will happen in the near future, this is the tragic reality of Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion.
GAME REVIEW: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: Wii U, 3DS
Release Date: March 19th, 2013
Finally! A new Monster Hunter game overseas! While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is indeed a re-launch of sorts of Monster Hunter Tri, I feel as if that doesn’t really do this game justice. There’s so much new content to explore that this game really stands out on its own. I can’t stress how much replay value this game has. It has single-handedly commandeered my 3DS and I’ve played nothing but Monster Hunter every time the system is on. I’ve logged about 90 hours and it’s still going strong.
