MOVIE REVIEW: The Great Gatsby
Screenwriters: Baz Luhrmann, Craig Pearce
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki
Release Date: May 10, 2013
Based on the 1925 novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby was hailed as one of 2013's most anticipated and most glorified summer blockbusters, but similarly to its characters, the movie was more style than substance. Although you can see that it was obviously beautiful, it really is just that; screen deep beauty.
MOVIE REVIEW: Iron Man 3
Screenwriters: Drew Pearce, Shane Black
Starring: Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Ty Simpkins
Release Date: May 3, 2013
Loosely based on the 6-issue Iron Man story arc "Extremis," written by Warren Ellis
Here it is guys, the first film to begin Marvel's Phase Two: Iron Man 3. Robert Downey Jr. suits up once more as the genius, billionaire philanthropist. He may look like the same overly charming, narcissistic superhero we remember from the last couple of movies, but after the events of New York (aka, the Avengers' awesome climax that destroyed most of the city), Tony Stark begins to have anxiety attacks. All the Norse gods and aliens just seemed too much for a "man in a can," but Stark shows us he's much more than that. Even when everything gets taken away from him (house, gadgets, his armors, you name it), he proves that he's more than just a dude in a high-tech suit of armor.

The latest comic from the Dead Space Universe comes to us in the form of Dead Space: Salvage. The story centers around Stefan Schneider and his ragtag group of space scavengers known as "magpies" who come across the deathly remains of the ill fated USG Ishimura (the setting of the furst Dead Space game). As they board the ship to scavenge its remains, they come to face to face with the Necromorph menace and must find a way off the ship before government shock troopers can eliminate all evidence of the "incident".

Once upon a time, video game stories were so simple that the entire plot could be summed up on the first two pages of the video game manual. Nowadays video game stories are so complex that not even the game itself can contain its narrative. Which is why its so cool to see games like Dead Space get their own graphic novels so that talented artists and writers can flesh out the worlds and characters just a bit further.
MOVIE REVIEW: Oblivion
Screenwriter: Joseph Kosinski, Karl Gajdusek, Michael Debruyn
Starring: Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman

Four years from now, alien invaders will attack earth. While we’ll win the war, the losses sustained will be catastrophic. As a result of the chaos, the Earth as we know it will become unable to sustain life. As such, the survivors of humanity will take to the stars in an effort to forge a new future. While I’m not exactly sure these events will happen in the near future, this is the tragic reality of Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion.
GAME REVIEW: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: Wii U, 3DS
Release Date: March 19th, 2013
Finally! A new Monster Hunter game overseas! While Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is indeed a re-launch of sorts of Monster Hunter Tri, I feel as if that doesn’t really do this game justice. There’s so much new content to explore that this game really stands out on its own. I can’t stress how much replay value this game has. It has single-handedly commandeered my 3DS and I’ve played nothing but Monster Hunter every time the system is on. I’ve logged about 90 hours and it’s still going strong.
MOVIE REVIEW: 42
Screenwriter: Brian Helgeland
Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford
Release Date: April 12, 2013
"Jackie Robinson, a black man in white baseball." Hero is a term we hear a lot in films, but being labeled an American Legend in the world of sports is a different story. 42 tells the story of baseball legend Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) under the leadership of Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford). While baseball might "just be a game," it's the stand these two men took against prejudice and injustice during their era that made this story worth telling to everyone, baseball fan or not.
MOVIE REVIEW: Evil Dead
Screenwriters: David Lindsay-Abaire, Mitchell Kapner
Starring: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore
Release Date: April 5, 2013
Based on the 1981 film The Evil Dead by Sam Raimi
It's hard to successfully develop a remake, because no matter how good it is, it will always be compared to the original. In this case, the remake at hand is Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead, the low-budget cult classic that's considered by many as one the greatest horror flicks of all time. It's spawned numerous copycats, pitting defenseless teenagers against demonic forces as they meet their cruel fate one death at a time. Well, it's been over thirty years since its release, and now Fede Alvarez makes his full-length feature debut with Evil Dead, which cranks up the gore to a solid ten, but forgets to add that much needed charm that made the original 1981 movie what it was.
